Speaking of Glass Chickens

Did you know that every day, hundreds of people are stalking eBay, cruising yard sales, and hitting up thrift stores in search of glass chickens? Yep, you heard that right! These charming collectibles, known in the trade as "Hens on Nest," have turned ordinary folks into treasure hunters, forever on the quest for the next great find.

The art of Hen on Nest collecting is a labyrinth of intrigue and obsession. We collectors even have our own ‘Bible’—Shirley Smith’s Glass Hen on Nest Covered Dishes volumes. These books are like sacred texts, meticulously studied by every serious enthusiast trying to decipher the origins and details of their precious finds.

Currently, I’m in a passionate, long-distance relationship with the miniature EE’s. But here's the rub: the genius behind these tiny masterpieces, Ed Bowman, recently shuffled off this mortal coil. As a new collector, I might not know much, but I do know this: my wallet can no longer handle the escalating prices of EE minis.

When the supply chain takes a hit, we collectors lose our collective minds. These tiny glass chicks, which could comfortably perch on a quarter, now demand prices higher than a luxury spa day—something I still can't justify splurging on, despite my growing glass chicken addiction.

I share this tale not just because I promised this blog would be a delightful hodgepodge of randomness, but also to underscore an important point. Even if your sole claim to fame is crafting tiny glass hens on nests, know that somewhere out there, someone is going to miss you more than they miss Wi-Fi on a long flight. So, keep going, keep creating, and remember: your seemingly small contribution makes a huge impact on someone's life.

I love you. Drink some water.
